I began practicing yoga in 1999 and realized I had come home to myself. I completed the 200-Hour Teacher Training at Desert Song in 2003 and have been teaching ever since. I continued my education to earn both my 500 and 1000-Hour certifications through Integrative Yoga Therapy in 2007. Then went on to complete all Anusara Immersions in 2010 and in 2012, including 100 hours of Anusara teacher training. With a depth of knowledge in Integrative Yoga Therapy and the principles of alignment, my classes are safe, grounding and healing. Most recently in 2015, I became a certified Ayurvedic Practitioner through New World Ayurveda. I also have a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and worked in the human services field for over 17 years.

For over 20 years, my yoga practice has been a steady reminder of my inner strength, to breathe and stay present, no matter what life has to offer. I’ve learned a lot from my own practice.   Not only from how my body has changed through the years, but also my own injuries.  In all of my classes, I will encourage you to listen to your body and modify as you need. I can offer many variations of the poses, making yoga accessible to any student. Remember props make a great partner! I love when students who think they can’t do yoga realize they actually can.

I became interested in Ayurveda during my yoga studies and practice. Yoga and Ayurveda are sister sciences dating back thousands of years. They complement each other and guide us toward being our most authentic selves. In learning about Ayurveda, we explore how these sciences come together through asana, pranayama, mudras and meditation, as well as, how we live our daily lives on and off the mat.

Off the mat, I am a cat mom. Many of you may have met Surya during one of my Zoom classes. I am an animal lover. One of the best experiences of my life was hanging out with elephants in Thailand! I also enjoy reading, movies, music and dancing. I love to bake and share my creations. Food is love after all.

All aspects of my education and training complement each other and support a holistic approach to health and healing in my classes and when I work with students privately. You can contact me directly at: www.heartful-ayuryoga.com or for a quicker response: debbieyogi@gmail.com.

Choose love over fear, trust in the flow of life, and let love be your guide.
